Paperblanks is a Canadian manufacturer that produces quality notebooks that are not only attractive but also extremely well-structured and bound using traditional techniques; the bindings are not glued (a binding technique that, while economical for the manufacturer, eventually leads to page loss) but are instead all sewn.
All Paperblanks notebooks are bound using one of two methods. They are either hand-sewn using 'Coptic' binding, which originated in 4th-century Egypt, or Smythe sewn, the most durable binding technique, which allows the notebook to open flat without page loss.
All Paperblanks notebooks use acid-free, archival-quality, and high-opacity laid writing paper. Their notebooks also feature a ribbon marker and an interior pocket inside the back cover for storing your notes.

Soon after, we added designs featuring the writings of Ernest Hemingway and Jane Austen, creating a series that would become our Embellished Manuscripts Collection. These first covers were minimalist designs featuring literary manuscripts written in black ink on beige paper. Eventually, our creative impulses took over and we tried to play with the design by adding a gold frame.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eStarting with a photograph of a gorgeous small piece of gold filigree, our Art Director created a full frame for the Shakespeare manuscript and highlighted it with a burnt orange background. Of course, our curiosity about what could happen next didn’t end there! When we removed the manuscript, we immediately saw the possibilities for a design inspired by classic Renaissance leather bindings.
