  • Aristarkh Lentulov (1882–1943) was an important Russian avant-garde artist with a Cubist orientation. As one of the leading representatives of the Moscow School of Painting, Lentulov left a lasting impression on Russian Futurism and Cubo-Futurism. His works stand out with their almost fairytale-like depictions of Russian architecture. Lentulov was born in the town of Nizhny Lomov in Russia's Penza Oblast, into the family of a poor village priest. He received his initial education at a religious school and then entered a theological seminary. From 1897 to 1905, he studied art at art schools in Penza and Kiev, and subsequently at Dmitry Kardovsky's private studio in St. Petersburg in 1906. Lentulov's interest in Cubism coincided with his joining the Jack of Diamonds group in 1909, which he co-founded and whose members would become leading figures of avant-garde art in Russia over the next several years. He participated in the group's first exhibition in 1910, and Lentulov's distinctive personal style began to take shape shortly thereafter. In the mid-1910s, he began to synthesize the spatial concepts of Cubism, the colors of Fauvism, and the decorative patterns of folk art. The work reproduced here, Monastery, is from 1917. An extraordinary and vibrant composition of the bishop's courtyard at the New Jerusalem Monastery in Russia, this work is one of the best examples of the pinnacle of Lentulov's career.

  • Paperblanks is a Canadian manufacturer that produces quality journals that are not only attractive but also extremely well-structured and bound using traditional techniques; the bindings are not glued (a binding technique that is economical for the manufacturer but eventually leads to page loss) but are instead all sewn.

All Paperblanks journals are bound using one of two methods. They are either hand-sewn using 'Coptic' binding, which originated in 4th-century Egypt, or Smyth sewn, which is the most durable binding technique and allows the journal to lay flat without page loss.

All Paperblanks journals use acid-free, archival-quality, high-opacity, laid writing paper. Their journals also include a ribbon page marker and an inner pocket inside the back cover to store your notes.
