We added a richly saturated dark blue background to add a bit of edge to the look of finely crafted leather.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWhen we first started making Paperblanks journals, we found a fragment of William Shakespeare's handwriting and knew it could be an inspiring journal cover. Soon after, we added designs featuring the writings of Ernest Hemingway and Jane Austen, creating a series that would become our Embellished Manuscripts Collection. These first covers were minimalist designs with literary manuscripts written in black ink on beige paper. Eventually, our creative impulses began to take over, and we tried playing with the design by adding a gold frame.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eStarting from a photograph of a small, magnificent piece of gold ornamentation, our Art Director created a full frame for the Shakespeare manuscript and highlighted it with a burnt orange background. Of course, our curiosity about what might come next didn't end there! When we removed the manuscript, we immediately saw the possibilities for a design inspired by classic Renaissance leather bindings.
