A tragic play in two parts, Faust revisits the ancient legend of Doctor Faustus, a scholar who sells his soul to the devil. Goethe turned this story into a profound exploration of human nature, morality, and destiny. This classic of European literature occupied Goethe for much of his life, from his youth until just before his death. Despite being based on a medieval myth, the work draws parallels with contemporary society and humanity's search for meaning in the world.
