Originally produced in France, this book was designed to hold the Pars Hiemalis section of the Paris Breviary. This was the winter portion of a book containing the liturgical rites of the Catholic Church throughout the church year - including the advent to equinox (or solstice) portion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBound in red Morocco leather by an anonymous Parisian workshop with gold filigree and large pointillé dots, the publication was printed by S. and G. Cramoisy in 1645. As one of the most powerful booksellers of the period, S. and G. Cramoisy were among the first lay printers to take over the printing of liturgical works after authority was transferred from the Church itself to lay workshops in 1618. However, this volume was likely produced for a book collector rather than for use in service.
